Web design portfolio pages are very important to potential clients so they can get a feel for the types of sites their prospective web designer has worked on. It seems the best way to do this is with a small screen shot of the website and a breif explanation.
Always keep in mind when viewing a web design portfolio that the sites are created for a client and their tastes and needs, not the designer's! I try to sneak my preferences into the design wherever the client accepts them, but they are always set aside in favor of my client's wishes.
