Kinkelaar Ink Design is owned by, Baylee Kinkelaar-Hauger, an up and coming Graphic Designer. Having her work to feature on the site was a huge advantage to me, with all of it's color, graphic structure and artistic qualities.
Baylee had her business logo designed (the gray ink at the top left of the screen shot) and used the colors from that as her site's palette. Her work was to be the main focus, so a clean and simple website was needed. The muted gray tones with punches of black and kelly green were prefect for the job.
Just to the right of her business logo we placed a fairly large slide show which features about 10 shots of some of her favorite work...so far! I had to crop the images so they would all be the same size in order for the slide show to work properly and I was a bit concerned about not having each as a complete work. Baylee ended up really liking this though as it gave kind of a teaser of what a visitor might find if they hung around and dug into the site further.
One of Baylee's pet peaves when surfing websites is having to do a lot of scrolling. Her hope was to have most of her site visible to visitors right from the home page. I think we came up with a great solution for that with the sliding panels. A visitor might still need to do just a bit of scrolling within a couple of the individual panels, but not much.
Baylee and I coordinated the design and development of her website all through the use of emails...living 2 states apart. I don't think we spent any time on the phone at all. It shows what can be done long distance in this day and age! Most likely, no matter where you live, I can help you too!
By the way, Baylee is such a creative and fast graphic designer that I send my clients to her who may be in need of a business logo to get them started. I also sub-contract any graphic design work on websites which might be out of my scope of abilities. Doing this is much more cost effective because projects get done faster.
